The Effects of Tragedy on Children

Recently as I was browsing through old photo albums I came across pictures of my girls, ages 9 and 3 at the time. They were sitting in their dads hospital bed, all smiles.
I remembered how three weeks prior they both stood in the kitchen of our home screaming, frightened and confused. They had just seen their dad go into cardiac arrest at the dinner table, just after meal time prayers.
I had to lift him onto the floor to begin CPR and when the girls saw me do that, hysteria broke loose because they both knew at that moment how serious the situation was.
I administered CPR on my husband until paramedics came. They continued working on him but could find no pulse. It looked bad.
How could this be happening, I thought. Fine one second and gone the next? It didn't make sense.
